New Vista Montessori School is the Roanoke Valley’s only not-for-profit Montessori school. As a not-for- profit organization all of our income is spent in the areas that most directly affect the students i.e., high quality teachers and school equipment. We are governed by a 9-member Board of Directors that is responsible for all long range planning of the school. Most board members are parents of children of the school, so they are deeply concerned with providing our students with the best possible educational environment available.
All three of our lead teachers in our 3-6 classrooms are Montessori certified. As the valley's only associate member of the American Montessori Society, we follow the curriculum set forth by the AMS: language, math, sensorial, practical life, geography, and science. The Montessori curriculum allows the child to advance at her/his own pace, with the freedom to excel beyond traditional age/grade level restraints. Multi-age classes are for ages 3-6, as well as a 2-3 year old class meant to step up into the blended age classes once the child turns 3 and is potty trained. Specially designed, hands-on materials let the children explore their environment-moving from concrete to abstract ideas.
